Drunken revelries fraught with danger
Anjishnu , Kolkata: Dec 4 2006

The death of Mahadeb Majumdar in a drunken revelry in his friend’s house in Krishnanagar in West Bengal, during the celebration of the latter’s marriage anniversary is a grim reminder of the fact that such wild parties which have become quite popular among the society’s youth can only lead to misery and sorrow. Mohar Saha and his wife Saraswati had invited some of their friends to their house to celebrate their marriage anniversary in style. The invitees numbering ten became drunk after consuming liquor served to them. While the guests played cards and indulged in drunken revelry, Saraswati was busy in the kitchen preparing snacks for the visitors. As liquor flowed in abundance one of the invitees Mahadeb Majumdar, who happened to be a friend of Mohar Saha entered the kitchen and embraced Saraswati. An infuriated Mohar who witnessed the incident involving his wife, killed his wife’s tormentor in a fit of rage. What started as a joyous occasion soon turned sad.

Drunken parties and revelries organized by people as a way of entertaining guests and acquaintances are fraught with danger as people under the influence of liquor inevitably fail to react logically to situations and circumstances and indulge in activities which they can possibly never imagine to commit while they are in their normal senses.
